I'm also a low paid academic. My degree is in math, but it's the same issue. No practical experience, no job. When my long term visiting contract stops being renewed I'll end up moving to data science, but I'll have to start at the same job my graduates currently get. Happens to us all.

It's definitely problematic that many graduate degrees in the humanities only qualify you to train other people for that graduate degree.

Maybe we can get the bloodsucking insurance companies involved? If you have a gun in the home, you're liable for how it's used, and your homeowners insurance should account for that

I'm all for the elimination of standardized tests, especially with this information. It is tricky though, when we do college admission based on high school gpa. I regularly run into students with minimal skills who swear they had a 4.0 previously

Mine struggle with having to explain why their answer is correct. If they give me a picture of a notebook with the right work in it, why do I make them dona revision?
