It’s why so many people are pushing the democrats to stop being so bland and centrist.

One common thread I’ve heard from experts is the idea that people (historically) choose fascism when they aren’t provided a better alternative. If actual problems aren’t being meaningfully addressed (by whoever) people pick the guy who explicitly lays out how he’s gonna solve the problem.
