Fifth Circuit observers know Smith as a predictable vote for Republican interests since Reagan/Meese plucked him from obscurity in the late 80s, along with Edith Jones, his contemporary/twin. For Smith to accuse Brown of having black robe disease is pure projection.

I’ve had type 1 diabetes since 1973 and choose to be healthy by taking insulin and monitoring my glucose levels. Easy peasy.

He’s also an excellent, veteran judge with a reputation for honesty and fairness. Appointed very early in Trump’s first term.

He's a lucky student. Wish I'd been one of your students, but our timelines didn't quite work (I was a history major, Class of '80 here). James Banner and Marty Sherwin were around then.

The magazine lost me with this one. This is a screed that I wouldn't have read if it hadn't been at the top of my Atlantic feed. I'm now a happy ex-Atlantic subscriber.

Ann has great genes. Her mom, Carolyn, is a retired Texas judge, and her dad Jake was a Texas legislator. All three of them were and are great lawyers and public servants. So happy to see her out front speaking for her colleagues.

We’ve been wearing these hats in the Austin area since the November election and they get a positive reaction whenever they’re noticed.

Yep. Every statewide
officeholder in Texas was a Democrat when we moved here from NYC in 1983. Some of them were progressive Dems like Ann Richards and Jim Hightower.

I get the point about Mays playing too long before retiring at 42 and know you're talking about his baseball career. But speaking as an old Mays fan, I'm sure happy about his very long life.
