Be the craftsman
I just turned 64 and not particularly athletic, but I'm pretty sure I could pass this test with a week or so of training (from The Atlantic): "To pass [the ICE fitness test], recruits must do 15 push-ups and 32 sit-ups, and run 1.5 miles in 14 minutes."

If I know the line I want to change and how to change it, I will ask @claudecode to make the change jus to to share state with it...

Nice article by Steve Yegge on coding with agents: sourcegraph.com/blog/revenge-o…
I'm an old timer who use#claudecodede in the terminal to write and manage close to 100% of my code. I read every change while it is making it and often redirect it. Using agents to code is a superpower

What if the "City On A Hill" just needs to lay low for now? As are many Americans, I am self conscious about our standing in the world but I also know that we are not this or any administration. We are something way more powerful because we are so diverse

If you're not saying no to your coding agent sometimes, you're doing it wrong

If you are an experienced programmer, consider creating tools for those who are not. Horizontal LLMs can do a lot of the work, but end-users need tools that keep them safe

‪If you don't like change, 2025 is not for you. Everything from knowledge work to American governance will look different in a year or two. Hang in there and be kind to yourself and others.

I don't think most people understand how seismic LLMs will be to knowledge work. I am now using it to program daily and it is revolutionary. I suspect the same is true for some lawyers, doctors, accountants and every other knowledge worker whose primary medium is text

Not a particularly profound, but LLMs will subsume most complex user workflows. This has profound implications to UX, which has profound implication for tools with complex UX, from Excel to Figma. I'm sure their makers know this

LLMs flatten the SaaS landscape into PaaS. If anyone can create a custom NextJS based blog, questions like "what blogging host do I use?" become "what platform service do I use?" (e.g. @heroku.com). I suspect that the PaaS providers are running fast at this problem (see @vercel.com v0)

LLMs are just a powerful and revolutionary language interface to the things that computers are already good at
The Deep Research problem — Benedict Evans
OpenAI’s Deep Research is built for me, and I can’t use it. It’s another amazing demo, until it breaks. But it breaks in really interesting ways.

This disappoints me as much as anything Trump has done as President. I know that the war we are in is asymmetric but I thought Biden knew that and that he was up to the challenge. I guess we have more work to do
