Yes, but since they no longer lose life to mana burn, all they have to do is tap their mana in the declare blockers step and float it all then. It gets emptied before damage is dealt so you get nothing. They still tap out, but you only get mana if they don't understand steps and phases.

You never get mana from hippo anymore. Before the opp had to choose to take damage or give you mana. Now they just tap their lands before it hits and then the pool empties and you don't get anything, but they don't take damage.
