You probably don’t need me to tell you this but do not trust Google AI (I need them to make this feature optional cause I hate it).

And here is a ‘fun’ demonstration of why - these results are from two different searches made back to back:

There is something in the air this February I swear, because there are so many exciting books coming out that I cannot wait to read!

I will forever take issue with this kind of flippant assessment of sexual violence in Ancient Greece - nowhere else is this logic used even in jest. The gods did heinous, violent, and just absurd things all of the time - yet do we extrapolate that the Greeks considered those things sanctioned? No.

This year I published my first solo nonfic book for adults with @404ink.bsky.social & I’m not exaggerating when I say the messages & tags I’ve received from people who have read it have been some of the most rewarding feedback I’ve ever received.

Thank you to everyone who read my wee book in 2024!

Did you know the ancient Greeks loved romance novels too?

Beginning in the Hellenistic era & thriving under the Roman Empire a new genre of prose emerged, now known as the Ancient Greek romances. Five of which survive.

Like modern romance these books are full of recognisable (to the time) tropes.

Meet Beira, Queen of Winter, also known as the Cailleach.

Beira (as she’s known in Scotland) is a Celtic goddess associated with winter. She reigns over the colder months, until Bride takes over in spring.

She is also responsible for creating the lochs, mountains, & valleys of Scotland.

As it’s December 1st, I feel it’s important to acknowledge the greatest Christmas film of the 21st century is Violent Nights (2022).

I will not be taking any questions.

Meet Boreas, Ancient Greek god of the North Wind.

One of 4 brothers known as the Anemoi, aka the winds, he is the son of the titans Eos (Dawn) & Astraeus (Stars).

According to Herodotus he helped Athens win the Persian War.

If you’re feeling the cold wind he’s the one to blame.
