New paper from Viktorija Kesaite describing the overlap between UPF and foods high in fat, salt or sugar (HFSS).

Using data from the National Diet and Nutrition Survey, we found 55.6% of UPF foods, 58.7% of energy from UPFs and 38.3% of food weight from UPF consumed were also HFSS.

OMG two new papers in one day!

Mike Essman explored impacts of mandatory calorie labelling in the out-of-home sector on consumer behaviour.

We saw increases in self-reported noticing and using labels and ordering something different.

New paper on the out of home food environment!

@jhoenink.bsky.social found that:

Online food outlet use in GB increased from 16% in 2019 to 25% in 2022.

People with access to more physical outlets in their neighbourhood ate more meals prepared out-of-home.

ICYMI: Our new paper on the impact of the UK Soft Drinks Industry Levy is out. 19 months after implementation, we found that households purchased 7.5g less sugar from soft drinks compared to expected - equivalent to a 2.6% reduction. nutrition.bmj.com/content/earl...

New paper from Megan Polden et al on impact of new calorie label regulations out of home. In intercept interviews with >6000 adults visiting >300 outlets we found increased awareness of calorie content of purchases. But no change in calories purchased or consumed. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
