that means Jerome's role would often shrink to off ball shooter, which doesn't make a lot of sense for him. he's at his best with the ball in his hands and probably felt he had earned an even bigger role that may not have been there with Ball on board.

I think it could be a lot of different things. it probably is a lot of different things. that's definitely one of them, but ultimately at the end of the day I think it comes down to roles. Ball is going to have the ball in his hands, and Evan is going to initiate even more next year.

maybe they wanted Jerome to do 4 years and he wanted 2+1. lots of reasons things could have gone the way they did. it's a big loss either way, but I think it's folly to assume all things were equal and the Cavs simply chose Sam. probably more complicated

and/or the Cavs prioritized a 3&D shooter (Sam's defense is much better than he gets credit for) over another playmaker and scorer. could be a side effect of putting the ball in Mobley's hands more often.
