Closet happy person. Still a dreamer so fuck off, you can’t take that from me. I live in Ireland.
When you're FaceTiming someone and they take a pee, you are 100% within your rights to critique how well they wash their hands afterwards.

And because I'm being curmudgeonly (I blame fucking time zones), I am unfollowing all the cat pix posters who use some sort of baby-language patois as the putative voice of their cat.

For the record, I am fucking sick of time zones.

Sociologists and psychologists tell us that ritual is important. This is why I drink Guinness

Monday night session in E-Town.

(No, no one actually calls it that)

My Google cloud storage hosting went from ~ USD10 a month to less than USD2 a month after I moved to a data centre in Finland. Either it's really that much cheaper or else I broke something and nothing is getting backed up haha.

Oh, but wait. I've tested my backups — have you?

Wtf is wrong with ppl who post cat photos (admirable) and then writing a caption in some sort of feline-English pidgin (deplorable)?

Good friends Pepper and Coco are both unwell. Pepper had to go to the emergency vet because he was puking up blood. Coco got into a fight with a neighbour and now wears the Cone of Shame. It's a rough time for my friends.

In movies, when the protagonist is trying to win the money he owes to the gangsters through gambling, he always loses. It's the law.

I'm gong to watch the Ennis women play some serious rugby on Saturday. It's literally been several decades since I watched a rugby match in person. Big thanks to Saher Hamden for letting me know the match was afoot.

Listening to African hip-hop. American music is everywhere.

I just came across this review of a book: "Delightfully crunchy without being chewy"

Who's the genius who came up with that? Oh wait, it was me.

Doing my part in supporting my local Desi restaurants and grocers. It’s a fuck you to the racists AND I get delicious and delightful food and groceries. Win-win!

200 days into Trump's term, where are we?

In the race between Trump's authoritarianism and efforts to resist it, authoritarianism is ahead. And while there are hopeful signs from the public, the chance of effective resistance is, for now, being fatally undermined by the capitulation of the elites.

I think I should watch The Sopranos. I was busy when it was fashionable and now I feel like I missed out on a bit of American pop culture.

I've found the _culture_ of digital privacy where I used to live in California to be much stronger than in Ireland. The theory that GDPR is an adequate safety net — somehow more powerful than any US laws — is not borne out in practice. Maybe that's just Ireland? What's the rest of the EU like?

There. I said it.

I'm doing more coding now as a retiree than I did in my job as a Software Engineer (haha as if writing code was "engineering" in any way!).

Lest I become rusty, I'm learning — wait for it — Rust.

So far, I like.

Google's enshitification has now reached Google Flights. €14k for a flight? (Actually no, not according to the airline's booking site.) Tell it to omit an airline and it doesn't.

"Controversial" has become a euphemism for "deranged, wacky, excessive or extremist". I will no longer be annoyed when e.g. NYT says some outrage perpetrated by Dear Leader is "controversial". Descriptive, not prescriptive linguistics, mufuckas. I mean, LITERALLY.

FINALLY someone is doing SOMETHING about Israel's genocide! Keir Starmer has given a sternly worded speech. That ought to do it.

Nowadays I write more code in a week than I did in a month when I worked at GFC, Inc (Giant Faceless Corporation). I do it for my personal projects, for fun, just for the halibut.
Sounds fishy, but no.
