I just checked with my friend who got arrested at a bunch at campus protests in the 80s and who still lives locally. He confirmed that's the case. UC Police are state law enforcement.

I just checked news reports. They were arrested by UC police not Berkeley police.

When I attended Berkeley in the 80s,they always took my friends who got arrested on campus to Santa Rita.Anti-apartheid protests.But I think in general,they take people who get arrested on the campus itself to Santa Rita.UCPD uses Santa Rita. Berkeley PD would take people to Berkeley cells. I think.
