Let me set cmdpal to launch with win+space without need for a keyboard remap 😀

Kidding aside, impressive new goodies from the team for sure.

I had the same thought. Windows 11 on ARM via UTM on my M4 mini (base config) is significantly snappier than it is on my new Core Ultra 7 Surface Laptop. Intel and Microsoft have got some real work to do.

Your video and write up forced me to finish a project that has been on my “meaning to do” list for too long. It turned out great.

Glad this is getting some TLC. Please consider sorting in folders.

When I hear people talk about Verizon I want to point them to US Mobile (maybe you’ve heard). Awesome MVNO service with first tier Verizon option. Our bill went from $170 to about $18/mo. Unlimited is often not worth it when you look at actual usage, but even if you do, “unlimited” is cheap too.

Perhaps the Surface team lost a step with the leadership changes?

The stuff I love most on your channel is when you build something, often with cast off or repurposed hardware. So good. I also realize that there’s no revenue coming from the 8 year old cast off server vendor, so a mix is required. Love the channel, and interested to see how the community evolves.

New models come out seemingly daily, so the reviewer community look for creative ways to cover the incremental (at best) changes and differences while making compelling content. No easy chore I am sure. But if that good wasn’t available for free would it be covered as widely? I don’t know.

We then also have the bias that comes from the self-selecting nature of reviewing products that are available for free. That’s different than scouring a market for solutions to problems or ideas. I notice this with repetitive product categories: mini PCs and “solar generators” being common now.

The reviewer (the good ones) will fairly evaluate the product. Calling out the pros and cons. But will they go scorched Earth at the risk of being cut off by the maker? Possibly. Possibly not. Some potential for bias exists there that just can’t be rounded to 0.

Reviewers need products. Product makers need marketing. So maker gives reviewer product X. That good is often fungible. Meaning it can be exchanged for something of value. That is a gain, and could be seen as compensation. I believe there are even income tax consequences for some of those cases.

“They don’t get to see the video, and no money changed hands” are common phrases. What’s implied but often not said (not targeting your channel, just broadly) is that there is potential for bias, and gain, by nature of the current symbiotic system.

I sometimes feel like the YouTube-reviewer community (which I love, admittedly) needs to rethink its language a bit. A set of claims gets uttered a lot that (IMHO) leave things unsaid. Your channel, and many others are certainly trustworthy, but some independence claims rankle me a bit.

We can tell. The site has been so good lately.
