The bird of the day for #blackbirdersweek is the dark-eyed junco. Check out @blackafinstem.bsky.social for more information regarding events today and the rest of the week!

I would also like to ask a favor. If you could, please direct any moderators or hashtags in the comments on the BAFIS account

Ableism in nature: A thread. This seems like an ordinary, if not very boring snapshot of a bridge, but this bridge has gained history and notoriety with me.

Most of my life I have not been very risk adverse when it comes to my body, but this bridge makes me very cautious....

Feeling a little grumpy. May bite of provoked, so I'm posting my favorite group of animals today with this pygmy rattlesnake, Sistrurus miliarius. But remember, snakes only bite (sometimes) IF provoked. They are not aggressive.

Rest In Power, Trayvon. Today would have been his 30th birthday. His loss, and that of so many others since 2012 is what "radicalized" me. We owe him, and all our people made ancestors too soon to remain vigilant in our defiance of this occupation we endure.

Another #mothmonday and so another silk moth. The Luna Moth, Actias luna. I photographed this one with my cell phone at a moth night hosted by @zdufran.bsky.social last year

Did someone say it's #mothmonday? How about N. America's largest species, Hyalophora cecropia or Cecropia moth. Click the photo for full view. This is a living specimen.

This is a female and they are enormous. #insect #bugsky #invert #macro #macrophotography #sciart #nature #wildlife #photography

Something I don't photograph often, but perhaps should more frequently, are flowers. It's an area of nature I am still terribly ignorant in. I have no idea what this species is. #flower #plant #botany #nature #photography #macrophotography #sciart

I almost forgot to post my cat for #caturday This is Booker, my other, and older cat. Well, I misspoke. He not really mine. I'm just the moderately tolerable alternative human in the house. He's definitely my partner's. Lil jerk.

It's #flyfriday, and apparently all of my Diptera photos are old AF. Anyway, here is a bee mimic robberfly predating a bee. I don't know or recall the species, but this is in central Oklahoma

Everything sucks right now, so from now until the end of January, I've instituted a pay what you can for 2025 calendars.

Price reduced to what I pay to print a calendar. Feb photos

Hope this can raise the morale of someone in today's climate.

Peace, Love, & Resistance.

It's important as a photographer to have an interest in another style than one's primary, I believe. Yes, my main focus is wildlife, but I've said before; I wake and rest most days a Black man in an urban setting. Yes, I love wildlife, and I love US, fareal.

Once upon a time in Oklahoma. This is not current, but the state of some Midwestern areas and the south can probably relate.

Hentzia mitrata male.
@spiderdaynightlive.bsky.social @alexwild.bsky.social do either of you know why you get this different eye color in photos? I know the actual color isn't different. I figure it's due to the angle of the flash and something to do with anatomy.

Mood: Eat the fucking rich.

I don't have solutions, or even ideas at the moment. I'm overwhelmed, as many are. Still, I will remain committed advocating for, and defending our most vulnerable people.

OKC King's Day Parade 2019. Oklahoma has a dope ass Black history. This the first and only place where I've seen folk pull up to a spoken word joint on horseback.

Sometimes, close up photos of wildlife don't do the scene justice. This has never been a popular photo, but one I still really like of an American bison in the Wichita Mountains.

This weather has me thinking back to when hell froze over in Feb 2021 (and by hell, I mean the state of politics in the midwest). I have not seen the Oklahoma river freeze in 21 years of living here except for this time. Share a photo of that massive freeze if you have one.

#slitheringsaturday anyone?
I know there's always been the thing about ostriches putting their head in the sand but I didn't know prairie ringneck snakes (Diadophis punctatus) were mimics.

A small robberfly predating an ant. I do not know the taxonomy of either. I can tell you they were found in central Oklahoma.
