These people should submit a bug report with the vendor. Having upstream look at it is obviously unsustainable, but people like Red Hat packagers are all too used to stuff like this.

They are. I currently use one (in addition to the normal FIDO2 stuff) as a pseudo-HSM so I always have my intermediate CA with me securely.
