Semi-subterranean house Sancy Mountains, France, 11th century. Most structures were stone. The frame of this wooden structure was evenly spaced wooden wall posts with
wall trenches. The hearth inside was lit on a large flat stone (interior left side). Long, curved entryways kept out cold and wind.
