I've just realised that a source of much frustration at work recently was IntelliJ configured to "Build Project Automatically" whilst I was running Maven from the IntelliJ terminal.

That explains the NoClassDefFound errors and inconsistent failures.

I absolutely love buying new games. Playing new games, not so much. It's almost as if the acquisition, the having, is the thing that I prize rather than the experience of playing.

Is this normal behaviour?

Had a question of mine asked on the recent @digitalfoundry.bsky.social #DFDirect. In hindsight, I'd wish I'd made it a little more insightful - perhaps I could have asked about some of the other potential benefits of NTC.

It's really weird having Rich Leadbetter say your name out loud though.

I've been playing around with the #trimui #brick recently, and have decided to try out #knulli.

It's awesome - everything kinda just works. Wifi, Bluetooth, scraping, network transfers, the lot. #EmulationStation is slick too.

All in, it's wonderful.

Hello folks of @bsky.app!

The family and I are undertaking a 5km Swimathon today raising money for @cancerresearchuk.org and @mariecurieuk.bsky.social.

Times are hard, if you're able to donate towards our efforts we'd be very grateful.

I've picked up watching #Castlevania on #Netflix after a break of some years and have only just realised that Alucard is Dracula spelt backwards.

It took for someone to say "you're the anti-Dracula" to figure it out.

I simultaneously feel smart and stupid all at once.

Computers were a mistake.

I was terribly sad when @lookitup.baby disappeared from Twitter for a while, but was so happy when they returned.

I'm even happier that they're on @bsky.app now I've called time on Twitter.

I appreciate you greatly Ian.

Had a pretty awful week - I contracted flu or COVID or something similar. I started feeling rough on Tuesday evening, and spent Wednesday sleeping with a terrible headache. I couldn't even bring myself to want to watch TV.

I can't remember the last time I felt so rough.

I've just realised that #Atomfall is listed to run on the OG Xbox One and PS4. They're nearly 12 year old consoles.

I wonder what compromises have to be made to achieve this?

I recently bought Flash Gordon on Blu-ray to show my son, but was alarmed that it had a BBFC 15 rating on the case.

I watched it many times as a child, albeit recorded on VHS from TV, and couldn't recall anything that would warrant this rating.

Started reading Dark Matter by Blake Crouch as part of the @speeed.co book club tonight.

1 chapter down, 2 more to go before next Thursday.

It's pretty good. I have no idea what's going on just yet. I'm happy to be back reading and not just sat in front of the idiot box.

Just thinking about how I missed 10 years off the age of FFVII earlier and came to realise that it's 30 years since #Windows95 was launched.

How has that passed so quickly?
January 30, 2025 at 4:52 PM
I started the original version of FFVII this morning having never played it. I've been tempted to pick up a #TrimUI Brick to get back into spur-of-the-moment handheld gaming, and was wondering if it'd be something that I'd enjoy.

I should probably get round to playing Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus at some point.

Hello anxiety, my old friend...
January 21, 2025 at 2:39 PM
In other news, I closed my Twitter account.

I'm eyeing up my Facebook account now... though how will I keep up with all the folks that I've known in the past without it? That being said, It's hard to make out anything they post in the firehose of content anymore though.

Despite owning my Akira 35th Anniversary box set for 6 years (how has it been that long?), I've only started reading it today.

It's something that I've meant to do for the longest time, but somehow I've not felt able to give myself the time to do it.

Anyways, I've started and it's great.

I hit a cat today whilst I was driving.

It ran from the opposite side of the road, and by the time I'd clocked it and hit the brakes, it was already in front of me. I braced for the impact, heard the thump, and saw it skitter back towards the side of the road it came from.

Are there any "gaming clubs" similar to book clubs?

My backlog is huge and I think having some accountability to actually pick up and play a game to completion would really help...

I spent New Year in Egypt and it's been an amazing experience. Managed to squeeze in a trip to the Valley of the Kings and to Cairo to see the Pyramids.

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo was a particular highlight - it moved me in a way that I wasn't expecting, almost reducing me to tears.
