Gratifying to find a community in SC energized to resist. Best moment: a speaker led the singing of The Star Spangled Banner. I wasn’t the only one who got a little teary pondering the line, “Oh say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?”

A poem by Louise Penny seems apropos for Elon Musk and the MAGA Administration as they go after USAID and other assistance programs: “I understand. You can’t spare anything, a hand, a piece of bread, a shawl against the cold, a good word. Lord knows there isn’t much to go around. You need it all.”
