Attorney, progressive Democrat, nature enthusiast on Chicago's Northwest Side. Always down for a tale from the trail, whether it be the campaign or hiking variety.
I agree. Its important that people are continuously reminded that the admin's actions aren't just terrible, they're actually illegal.

Asking for legal guarantees from an administration that flagrantly violates the law seems like a fool's errand.

The people who do the laborious, thankless grunt work of maintaining a vibrant, healthy democracy are standing up to Trump, whereas the people who make lots of money off of politics/government are playing ball or folding completely.

I am more and more convinced that this is the defining chart of our times.

"Who was President in 2020?" would be a good question to ask, too.

We need leaders who deeply love our public lands. We need senators & reps who take their families camping and to visit historic sites, county commishs who go for walks in the forest preserves, presidents who treasure parks for their beauty, not their resale value. We need electeds with a land ethic.

Getting in a question about something dear to me was a privilege; there are so many important issues to hear about!

If I'd asked a followup question, it would have been: what National, State, or local Park is your favorite? Why? What will you do to protect it? (If you don't have one, why not?)

At a local candidate forum this summer, my question for Illinois' US Senate candidates was asked by the MC: would they commit to opposing any bill that reduces funding and protection for public lands?

Lt. Gov. Stratton, Rep. Krishnamoorthi, and Rep. Kelly all responded with some version of "yes".

He's doing it because he knows no one with the legal power, individually or collectively, will stop him. That's the whole story of Trump's life.

Although I generally think Kamala Harris ran a pretty good campaign considering the circumstances, one mistake I pointed out during the debate was not actually explaining what tariffs are. Her team got too cute with the "Trump Sales Tax" bit and forgot the "Affordable Care Act vs Obamacare" lessons.

The core tenant of the Republican Party is that all Republicans get to act like children (uncontrollable bad behavior, selfish thoughtless policies, and no accountability for actions) while everyone else - whether child or adult - must be punished according to a GOP version of the Code of Hammurabi.
