I would have been fired or at least severely reprimanded if I’d ever written a headline that declared a person guilty of a crime before the trial even began. Of course, we used to have a professional system designed to prevent such litigious junk. Gripe, gripe, grouse and groan. 🙄🤬

I’d also ask for brief essays about Goldberry, the hobbits’ use of the weapons taken from the barrow and/or the search for the new Tree of Gondor, plus an analysis of the Scouring of the Shire.

Lest the 144th anniversary of this meeting be forgotten, here’s the plaque marking the occasion in London, England. It originally was placed in the old chemical lab at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and now - so I’m told - is in its museum. I’ve visited the area thrice but never have seen it. Someday!

Goodbye, 2024. For too many people, the old year delivered a terrible level of challenges & pain. Still, a kind Providence smiled, for we received blessings & lessons both rich & lasting. May 2025 grant the same for all of us. We wish family & friends a new year full of hope & grand experience. ❤️

I had a newspaper route that afternoon, and grim-faced people met me on their porches. The TV was tuned to Cronkite for four days. It was surreal to spend one-on-one time chatting with him 16 years ago, knowing how much his truthful stability meant to us all that horrible week.
