Working to help slash GHG emissions & defend liberal-democratic norms. Enjoying guitar with friends. Golfing to stay humble. Helped get @brucefanjoy.bsky.social elected!
"Fossil fuel pollution is overheating Canadian forests, spawning an out-of-control wildfire crisis"

& yet, in another part of our collective mind, all we can think about is burning more & more oil & gas...for those lovely paycheques...which we will then spend to deal with #extremeweather

"The additional climate change impacts between 2015 and 2025 alone will cost the average household $700 per year, & will continue to increase moving forward"

Check June 2025 fact sheet from @climateinstitute.bsky.social on the cost of climate-driven wildfires:

It's curious that Canadian populism (I'm thinking of you, Pierre) hasn't grabbed hold of the need to defend all those good people who are losing their livelihoods to wildfires, warm/acidic oceans, storms, floods, drought, smoke/pollution...

Instead, we get nostrums about hard work, taxes, family...

Most worrisome point? Poilievre’s attack on the “Liberal open borders experiment of mass immigration.” He wants a “Canada first” policy that includes “more people leaving than coming”

Way too much Trump in there; not enough Canadian generosity

If an oncologist tells you it’s best to stop drinking alcohol, do you then keep drinking alcohol?

If a scientist in atmospheric chemistry tells you it’s best to stop emitting greenhouse gases, do you then keep emitting?

Freedom works best with expertise

Couple of useful flood maps from www.theweathernetwork.com/en/news/weather/severe/why-has-2025-seen-so-much-widespread-flash-flooding-us-texas

We don't need an expansive historical record with steady increases to tell us something weird & very damaging is happening...

Bruce's win over Pierre in Carleton is one of the most consequential things about our recent consequential election

I got there, but this voting process requires considerable patience and a little ingenuity!

Some tips: reload the Canada Post app if it's not working; go to vote.liberal.ca directly on your browser not from the email; open the Canada Post app AFTER your phone dings

When you come across a great goalie, sign them immediately

Like #MarkCarney — of whom it has been said, "He did the Ken Dryden. He stepped up"

(See "How hockey shaped the Governor" telegraph.co.uk/finance/econ...)

Canadians need Carney in net

Though we might just have a 'carbon election'

#ExtremeWeather is changing our context fast & the only possible solution is cutting emissions

We don't have enough hoses, or rakes, or boats, or AC units, or irrigation, or insurance, or money

#Climate costs more than #tariffs

Trump has us focused on the flow of drugs into the US from Canada

But here is evidence of drugs flowing into Canada from the US: seizure of 406kg methamphetamine worth $50mil, headed for Winnipeg

We work on this problem together; no need to damage relations

So of 37 countries, Canada is 12th in economic performance—tied with Sweden & ahead of the US, Germany, Australia...

Room for improvement (e.g., affordability), but we're not broken as #Poilievre argues

Why not organize a series of meetings with the other four parties to hammer out some sort of shared Canada First strategy to deal with this threat to the country?

Let's see what can be agreed politically rather than putting our political differences on display...

Took me a second... 😊

It really shouldn't be that hard to Charter the spirit of Christmas in a thriving democracy

"Are there no prisons? And the Union workhouses? Are they still in operation? The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?"

Part of the solution is to be on both XTwitter & Bluesky

Use Bluesky to recharge, recover, caucus, create...

Use XTwitter to engage the world head-on

Brandish facts, scope arguments, address concerns...

Dialogue is powerful — & essential

Do we have a Cabinet Committee on Climate Risk?

This kind of brief to other governments must form part of our assessment of how the disruption of global weather will affect Canadians

Economically, socially, what happens in Norway, or the UK, or Spain, or Morocco, or China... affects us all

"adaptation to such a severe climate catastrophe is not a viable option, we urge the Council of Nordic Ministers to (a) initiate an assessment of this significant #risk to the Nordic countries & (b) take steps to minimize this risk..." - climate scientists on #AMOC
