It's exactly the same pattern as 2010s Google advocating for fibre broadband everywhere because more people online at high speed meant more people using Google. Growing your dependencies.

It's also in line with Facebook's early days goal of "connecting people" back: in both cases, it increases the volume of exchanges on the platform. Back then, user base had a lot more room for growth. Nowadays, ramping up volume per user grows more important. 4/5

it only needs volume, because Facebook recommender systems will then surface the content that is attractive.
