Erst für den #Zukunftsentscheid und sozialen Klimaschutz in Hamburg geworben. Und jetzt beim #ExtremWetterKongress nochmal mehr dazu lernen, warum genau das nötig ist #EWK2025

I spent last week at the Knowledge Integration team of Barcelona Supercomputing Center to discuss insights from interviews with heat adaptation stakeholders in Hamburg and Barcelona: What heat adaptation actions do they implement? With whom do they collaborate? How do they use climate information?

Last week I discussed with municipal officers and scientists at the #I4CAdaptalab how climate science could better support climate change adaptation. I still have to reflect on what I learned but the biggest obstacle to adaptation seem to be political and require more than just climate information

Attended the kick-off for Lower Saxony's Climate Future Labs yesterday. Great to meet researchers from so many disciplines who are eager to build bridges from knowledge to action. Very excited and curious to see what will come out of the projects in the coming years

Used my lunch break to collect signatures for a citizens' initative to change Hamburg's #ClimatePolicy with 3 goals: 1) Become climate neutral by 2040 instead of 2045, 2) Annual reduction goals for GHG emissions & 3) Social impact assessments of mitigation measures. We are close to success.

As my best friends have kids now, I can't stop thinking about this figure from the #IPCC report. We already live in a warmer world compared to 1850 to 1900. As a 90s kid I will still experience some decades of #climatechange. But if you are born today...

I recently came across this great typology of ways of arguing that are used to justify delaying more ambitious climate policies. Maybe it will help you to better understand current debates - at least it helps me.

People trying to delay climate action often argue along four questions:

What are our options to adapt to climate change? What's the risk that they have unintended negative impacts? How confident are we in our assessment of the options?

There's much to learn from this figure from the IPCC AR6. Definitly worth taking some time to explore it.

This week I attended an exciting #I4C "adaptalab" where climate and social scientists worked with stakeholders from different cities to develop mock-ups of impactful climate services. Great to experience such co-production and see promising ideas integrating climate and vulnerability data
