This is precisely the kind of government coercion that the First Amendment was designed to prevent — and media companies need to start standing up rather than capitulating to it.

After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.

Our democracy is not self-executing. It depends on us all as citizens, regardless of our political affiliations, to stand up and fight for the core values that have made this country the envy of the world.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

What can you do?

Don’t quit. Dictators want you to give up.

Punch back. Dictators are bullies, and bullies are cowards.

Stay tethered to the truth. Dictators need you to believe their lies.

Resist. Stand with others.

Let us be clear. A man adjudicated as a sexual abuser wants to put multiple men credibly accused of sexual assault/crimes (which they deny) in position of extreme importance. This movement has violence and deep misogyny at its core. This is deeply sick

When I say that the right is dominating the left on almost all platforms, this is what I mean. I hope Democratic officials take this into account every day. If you want an ecosystem that will advocate for YOU, then YOU need to help build it. Give interviews to creators, break news with creators...

Fox and its ilk created an impenetrable misinformation universe that got an adjudicated rapist elected. Fox is not just conservative, it’s dedicated to electing the GOP. The rest of the media wallows in both-sider bliss.

Until Dems form media dedicated to electing Dems, losses will only get worse.
