Im wondering about my DC councilman Matt Frumin. He seems to be AWOL. Does anyone know if he is being at all active in resisting the takeover

You seem to be the only HRW staffer on Latin America. I looked through the whole list. You were next to last. I know Jose Miguel Vivanco resigned, but didn’t realize HEW was down sizing coverage of the region, where you used to be so important.

I’ve read two novels and one serious nonfiction since Trump was inaugurated. It keeps me sane.

We can talk more about the new smaller wineries. What gets to the States is hit or miss. Chocolan, Root, … Great whites in Chile that the locals drink with mariscos and fish, but otherwise ignore in favor of hefty reds. (Avoid the merlots— my bias). Don’t spend over $15.

I also love Malbecs. Chilean Cabernet is the standard. Look for reserva or gran reserva, if you can find them. Still fairly cheap. Casillero del Diablo is on old, popular but still very dependable brand. Also Santa Julia.

Stick with Chile and Argentina. Carmenere is a new discovery. Mendoza Syrah is one of my favorites (but you seem to veer away from smooth and fruity). Enjoy
