Broadway Bikes in Uptown has been my go-to for several years. They're very nice and know their stuff.

And lastly, I want to state again that I sympathize with the residents in this area and across the City that are dealing with noise. It's unhealthy, annoying, and invasive. People deserve peaceful spaces. It sucks that noise is overlooked as a pollutant and that there's not much hope for a remedy.

From a quick look at the area in question, it seems like a textbook spot to build some walls. High density residential uses, handful of public park spaces, etc. Lots of people being affected by noise! I kinda want to build a model just to get a rough idea of the noise reduction walls could bring!

This doesn't mean it is impossible to get walls built. It means that the millions of dollars needed to build them would have to come from a non-traditional source or process, and the city, DOT, and FHWA would have to give the stamp of approval. It's a lot of work, but weirder things have happened.

IL, like most states, doesn't maintain a Type II program which would allow for studies/funding towards retrofitting an existing highway with noise walls. So, the state and federal infrastructure to get something built in Avondale isn't there via any mechanism I'm aware of.

In this case, the work being done on the highway doesn't meet Type I criteria which would trigger the noise study. If there is no Type I project, generally a noise study and any federal funding is optional/impossible.

To put it simply, potential sound walls are investigated and designed when a new highway project that meets certain criteria occurs and when that highway is then predicted to result in high enough noise levels at enough noise-sensitive locations for it to be worth it.

It would be cool if we committed to better bike infrastrcture along this part of Damen to make that a better option. I've biked to several Bulls games and the last leg of the ride is always rough.

Love the Dyson pick as most improved. It would be great if he could have that before having to settle for somewhere in the top 5 of DPOY while a (hopefully) healthy Wemby runs the table there for the forseeable future.

The Acoustics BS has been axed, too. It was hugely successful in that effectively all of us grads got jobs in the field. It's a shame we are losing one of the only undergrad Acoustics programs around.
