Walker, archer, and volunteer woodland warden by weekend, and bioinformatics software engineer and general geek by weekday.

My favourite prime is 15551, my favourite colour is, obviously, octarine, and I love nothing more than being immersed in nature.
Are juvenile common lizards normally black, or is this a melanistic one? It was tiny. Seen at #RSPB #Fowlmere.

The magnificent seven: Oh deer!
Fallow deer, Potton Wood, Beds.

Small herds like this are fine and magical to behold, but like everything in nature things need to be kept in balance. We killed the wolves, hence deer stalking has its place as the man-made alternative to the wild balance.

Some of the lovely blue #wildflowers in the garden currently. #nature

Marvelling at a wonderful patch of Herb Paris (Paris quadrifolia) in a #wildlifebcn West Cambs ancient woodland. Plus my first (Midland) Hawthorn of the year in flower, and some lovely Bugle.

#wildflowerhour, even though none of them are tiny plants.

Delightful Pasque Flowers on this evenings walk. A brief stop-over to Therfield Heath on the way home from work. #wildflowers #easter #nature

A beautiful morning for walking around #gamlingaywood today. Nice to see the ash stool has regained the Wood Anemone crown again. The Herb Paris patch is lookling spendid too

My first fresh looking Large White butterfly of the year, fluttering around the greenhouse until I caught it.

An early trendsetter - the English Bluebell, in Gamlingay Wood. I only saw 2 of them out of hundreds of thousands (or more). Signs of things to come.

Lots of wood anemones, lesser celandines, primroses, oxlips and wild strawberries too.

If you can see this, quote this sentence with a beach photo from your gallery.

(East Anglia. I don't do beach crowds!)

It's hard to better Babylon 5. It had shaky moments, many caused by the studio mucking about the scheduling and cancelling / restarting it repeatedly, but it was properly ground breaking.

I also have a real soft spot for Blake's 7, old style Dr Who and the remake of Battlestar Galactica.

When your fortune cookie is menacing.

Nice life you've got there. Shame if anything were to happen to it. lol

Conference spam: is there a curated email black list of known conference spammers and predatory / fake journals?

Most of my spam comes from these sources. You know that *they* know they're spam when they start changing to unicode fonts to obfuscate things like "to unsubscribe..."

I think it's likely a Trentepohlia sp. I don't know which. Some more photos from today's walk.

Today I found the most stunning colour on a fallen tree. Lichen maybe? As a bonus it even had it's own colony of bees (still semi active at 5°C).

Who knew it was this low? 🤣

@tescoofficial.bsky.social: "Every Little Helps".

Just not every little bit of maths!🤣
(I checked the packaging and both claim to be 10g each, so they're the same weight at least.)

I think it's perhaps some cunning pointless-plastic tax, of which I approve!

More fungi fun, from Gamlingay Wood. Taken on either the Friday recce or (mostly) today's Parish Walking & Wildlife Group walk.

My very vague attempts at identification in the alt text. Some good, some not ;-). Feel free to educate me!

Some wonderful fungi on my walk today, ending up with the rare Mylectrica Solaris seen in the local garden centre. ;-)

Coprinopsis spelaiophila (identified by BMS facebook group) found in a Wildlife Trust woodland in West Cambs this morning. Very well hidden in an old ash coppice stool.

My first time finding this species. Beautiful. Underside photo was challenging as I left it in situ.

I picked up a friend on the walk today. A beautiful Banded Demoiselle. #nature

So instead, have a photo that is *definitely* me, much later with much more hair! lol. I'm the one on the right, to avoid confusion! 🤣

While hunting through old photos I found this gem of me at Roxton Rally! This tractor was replaced later with a tracked one (Field Marshall vs Fowler IIRC). I still love the putt-putt-putt sound of that engine.

A cold crisp start to the day. I should plan a walk somewhere and bathe in the winter sun before it clouds up.
