Aren't y'all supposed to be fake news?
January 20, 2025 at 9:59 PM
Is it weird that I'm no longer shocked by this stuff?
January 20, 2025 at 9:40 PM
It's Monday in Beijing. They programmed it all to the wrong time zone, and I'm shocked folks aren't picking up on that.

I mean, I know Trump technically won't be president until tomorrow, but it's already Monday in China.

It kills me that folks actually fell for what was a blatantly obvious stunt from the very beginning.

Technically speaking, it's Monday in China.

Yes, if you're doing it to achieve something you want. Shutting down your service and blaming someone else to stoke anger directed at them is exactly how manipulation works.

Anyone who grew up with cable television saw this coming a mile away. We've seen it before.

That's entirely their choice. That doesn't make it less manipulative, though.

I'm not freaking out. Rather, I see the game being played, and I'm not playing. I am not going to "stay tuned." I already know the ending. I watched cable and media companies do this same thing for decades.

A law that both the incoming and the outgoing administrations have both said they won't enforce. TikTok is the only thing banning TikTok.

While I can't guarantee it'll be back, TikTok can absolutely choose to overturn its own self-imposed ban.
January 19, 2025 at 2:42 AM
There isn't a ban to overturn, though.

Biden said he won't enforce it.

Trump said he won't enforce it.

The only entity banning TikTok right now is TikTok, but I suppose TikTok could overturn their own self-imposed ban.

I'm on the fence. When a company starts playing games like this, I stop wanting to play.
January 19, 2025 at 2:25 AM
It means that TikTok chose to do this. If it magically comes back up on/after Monday, there's your sign.
