Why is this important? We think this chimerism is a substantial contributor to the experimental noise typically seen in AAV-MPRA type experiments, as detailed in this fantastic piece from our collaborators: doi.org/10.1101/2025...

This could have implications for other class of experiments as well.

Through some well-controlled paired-barcodes experiments & long-read sequencing, we found that with kb-sized homologous inserts, nearly half of packaged genomes showed evidence of barcode swapping.
