Not sure which Ning Hao film you’re referring to but during COVID (though after Chinese cinemas re-opened) there was an extended period of extremely conservative theatrical distribution. There was a huge number of films that stayed on the shelf in favor of explicitly ‘main melody’ (主旋律)films.
