Only 10 Months at First According to tradition, Romulus, the legendary first king of Rome, oversaw an overhaul of the Roman calendar system around 738 BCE. The resulting calendar, whose structure borrowed heavily from the ancient Greek calendar system, had only 10 months, with March (Martius) being the first month of the year. Right, but not the same as the unassigned winter days between the end of December and the start of March, the days that didn't have a month name on the earliest Roman 10-month calendar that we're talking about.
Legendary 10-month calendar edit The Romans themselves usually described their first organized year as one with ten fixed months,a decimal division fitting general Roman practice. There were four months of "31" days—March, May, Quintilis, and October—called "full months" (pleni menses) and six months of "30" days—April, June, Sextilis, September, November, and December—called "hollow months" (cavi menses). These "304" days made up exactly 38 nundinal cycles. The months were kept in alignment with the moon, however, by counting the new moon as the last day of the first month and simultaneously the first day of the next month. The system is usually said to have left the remaining two to three months of the year as an unorganized "winter", since they were irrelevant to the farming cycle.

I enjoyed Hate Won't Win by Mallory McMorrow, especially the ideas about how to get more engaged in our communities and in politics. In more normal times, this would have been perfect. Under the current regime, the advice doesn't quite feel like enough to stop authoritarianism. #BookSky

The author humorously tells her story of being raised in a prominent Christian Nationalist family, how nationalism has infected American churches, and how she found her way out. I have regrettably seen the same changes in Mormon culture. Recommended.
