There was no direct statement saying she was misquoted/misinterpreted or indeed that the speculation was malicious. Given the passion with which she made reference to those "dark forces" I would have thought she would have been equally forthright about this. Very disappointing.

She talked about assets but failed to define what she classed as assets and was only forced to say they would not confiscate jewellery when challenged by another MP. She was very clear on things she was going to define e.g "family" in relation to ECHR articles. 1/2

And if it was a lie by the media why wasn't it addressed as such in the strongest way? It should have been called out as malicious falsehoods designed to stir up emotions and anger. The fact it wasn't suggests they, either briefed it out, or are really bad at PR and damage limitation.

Why didn't Mahmood state it to be a lie if that was the case? The govt either did brief this out, or they are spectacularly bad at PR and damage limitation. Neither reflects well on them.
