i had a bug in some code (exhausted int32 somewhere)

i don't really think it makes a lot of sense to change purchasing behaviors today based on this info cause like, if you were gonna build a PC you're already fucked on RAM and iPhones last a long time and so do macs and other electronics

mostly just get it if you were looking for an excuse already

Maybe... From what I've read and heard, Apple tends to have 1-year long Long-Term-Agreements for suppliers of DRAM chips.

mmmm, depends how old the existing one is, it might be 1-2 years before a lot of this cools down if we're following historic cycles and assuming there will be some kinda hard limit on AI compute growth (either capital-wise or like, demand-wise)

if you like this year's iPhone, sure go for it

Everything is a precursor to the bubble popping imo

Just don't know which one is going to hit first (DRAM shortage, grid failure, GPU shortage, etc.)

There are rumors they may have contracts up for renegotiation in January - wccftech.com/apple-could-...
Apple’s Long-Term Agreements For DRAM Chips Are Nearing Expiry, Company Could Be Forced To Pay Samsung, SK hynix A Higher Sum From January 2026
Companies like Apple aren’t immune to the global DRAM shortage, as a rumor claims that Samsung and SK hynix could start charging a premium from January

If the AI bubble doesn't pop in the next 12 months, everyone is going to be paying for it with insane prices of consumer electronics, massively inflated cloud resource costs, and shortages across the board.
December 15, 2025 at 5:41 AM
Not even including the 6 months of calibration required for that insanely high precision fabrication equipment. Then after that the first wafers on that production line will take 5 months to go from raw silicon to DRAM chips in a consumer product. That's 2.5-3 years.
December 15, 2025 at 5:41 AM
If there isn't a huge change to the pattern, we may be stuck in a fucked market for compute HW for years to come.

Even if they spent the money today to scale out fab capacity, it takes 12-18 months to get a new ASML machine needed for the EUV lithography used in DDR5 production.
December 15, 2025 at 5:41 AM
I wonder what's going to happen when next year's iPhone is announced with a 20-30% price increase compared to this year. I wonder if they'll raise prices on older phones too.

DRAM manufacturers have historically ridden out demand crunches without reactively increasing supply, making huge margins
December 15, 2025 at 5:41 AM
Additionally, I think it'll be easier for Hyperscalers and cloud providers to get more power than it will be for them to get more HW so they will run their older HW into the ground and pay the power cost all while raising prices for cloud services and VMs which will trickle down to consumers.
December 15, 2025 at 5:41 AM
We're already seeing it hit the enterprise sector with 50%+ jumps in pricing from <90 days ago from server manufacturers for high RAM capacity systems. Consumer DDR5 RAM has nearly 4x'd in price in 90 days, this is going to hit iPhones and Laptops in the next 2-3 months.

Thank you!!!!!!

ConnectRPC socket? I don't really see a reason this has to be standardized and/or shaped like AT Proto fwiw. The protocol only really describes how data syncs between nodes in the network and browsers/end-clients don't really fit in that mix from an event stream standpoint so use whatever you want!

iunno tbh, I kinda got Kafka pilled over the past 6-8 months and would just do something like that with a lil merging binary somewhere and have it emit onto a kafka topic (with a broker of your choice)
