Yes, people get too committed to parts of the story and ignore the broader literature when they see these sorts of things.

This doesn’t mean that some claims were overstated in the original book, but many of the main conclusions largely hold true.
So we have to be careful not to throw out the baby with the bathwater based on a single historical critique.
Our conclusions should be grounded in decades of research.
