All the Doctor Whoness of it would just be fair game….EXCEPT they have a musical theme during the action beats that is so CLEARLY a Vanilla Iced version of Murray Gold’s I AM THE DOCTOR from the Matt Smith era, that SURELY this show is a walking lawsuit?

Sometimes even complicated things can be very uncomplicated. How many more children need to die for us to admit this isn’t complicated?

I have so much grey in my beard now. This is my ‘distinguished’ faze. Heading towards my ‘Gandalf’ faze.

These will always be true.

People always talk about the scene in Heat where Pacino and DeNiro sit for a drink. But it is, and always will be, a Raiders moment.

There’s also something about Jones/Ford’s clumsy brawling that manages to feel fresh and real against the modern era of heavily choreographed action. He’s just a guy flailing about.

I mean….come on. Just look at this.

The lighting. The shadows. Its just the best and purest use of cinema ever. Spielberg at his most primal. He was talking the language of the screen.

“Five years ago i would have gone after it myself…” This is why i hate Crusade. The Brody of Raiders is Jones’s mentor. He’s just a few years past doing these things himself. HE is the contact point for the CIA. Crusade sacrificed all of that for one joke, turning him into an idiot.

“Wiped clean by the wrath of god…” this scene is a big part of the secret sauce of the movie. The spooky music that creeps in, the sense of dread that lingers just under the surface. The sense of the magical and unknown. The later films didn’t have it.

Worth remembering there’s only one passenger seat on this plane. Regardless of whatever happened in the temple, Jones wasn’t planning on taking Satipo with him. Jones wasn’t the GOOD GUY here. He was just a better guy than Belloq.

This intro right here is what forms my take on the character, why i call him JONES not INDY, and why the first film is the only pure text. We meet him in shadows. He’s an ambiguous and lost character who refinds his way through the story. He’s a Bogart. Not the pure good guy of later movies.

New Marah Chase novella as soon as Kindle uploads it. A quick read, set a few years after End of Eden.
