Aha a sneaky step 3.5 - "store for at least a fortnight" before moving on to next step!

Beans are dry.
Stored away until the hulling machine arrives.

Dehydrator is now full of beans.
40 degrees for about 4 days.
December 2, 2025 at 4:48 AM

Gave them a good wash, changing the water a couple of times, then did the "float test" - at this stage, beans that float should be discarded.
I was worried that after a few days in the fridge they'd all be no good, but about 40% we're still OK

Got a decent amount of beans from two young plants
November 26, 2025 at 9:34 AM
Easily the most labour-intensive step is getting the beans out of the fruit - did this by hand and bribed the kids to help
November 26, 2025 at 9:32 AM
Picked all the ripe fruit

Started playing "slow" scrabble with $partner while tidying house... Each making a move when we next passed the board, no scoring.
Predictably enough we ended up playing the last 3 "un"competitive moves face to face
