A U.S. citizen legally observed ICE activity from a distance. He didn’t interfere, block agents, or make contact. An ICE agent still threatened lethal force and referenced a recent killing. That’s retaliation for protected speech—and it’s illegal. Caught on video. #sheshed

I wrote book reviews for a while for the WSJ well over a decade ago, and Bari Weis was my editor. One of her special tricks was to try to insert a sharp rightward slant into my essays *after* it had been copy edited, as a way of slipping her viewpoint in at the last minute.

Howard Norman's 2024 novel Come to the Window has everything his novels are known for-lovely writing, quirky characters and plots, and satisfying endings. This is now my favorite of his, probably recency bias, since his 1994 novel, The Bird Artist, is just about perfect.
