You're not wrong, but hype can be contagious. I think more niche games than this have had breakout success simply due to casuals having loud (and usually annoying) enthusiast friends.

It's shocking how many cheats are wrong or incorrectly listed for every version of a game. As a kid, I tried cheats to unlock stuff in the N64 version of WCW Mayhem and it never worked. I didn't find out until years later that they were just for the PSX version, but gamefaqs listed them for both.

I think its totally OKAY. Its def style over substance, but I don't think its below average for console beat em ups of the era. It is just such a Genesis game in all the best ways.
