Varo has a griffon companion, Berry - she was given to him by the Sunspears when she was a hatchling, as a token of gratitude for Varo's support in the Sunspear uprising in Istan. Vestris, who Varo met in the Highlands, helped him raise her (she was quite a handful when she was young).

His jaw extends into “hinges” that lay on top of his ears, behind which he usually tucks strands of his hair. Noah can also open his mouth wide, past what a human’s jaw should be physically able to. He normally only does this when hunting, feeding, or fighting, and generally avoids doing so if he doesn’t have to.
