I went through several other electric kettles whose lids broke before the current one. Metal hinges rusted under steam and plastic broke. The KitchenAid one has a durable metal lid which lifts off without a hinge. The lid does get hot though.

The problem I have with tea-balls is the wire mesh tends to trap the loose tea it's difficult to clean. The Yoassi stainless steel tea infuser cuts the holes and no wire mesh. Loose tea easily dumps out and rinses away. Dishwasher safe, fits both teapots and mugs.
