Dad. Lawyer: trial guy, IP geek. Words: reading/writing well. Repped by World Builder Entertainment, currently between agents. Queens kid, constant NY state of mind. Formerly tricoastal: NY/CA/HI. Now Brooklyn/Manhattan & Kailua-Kona. Lovingly complicated.
Think of it like this.

Amazon is the evil Empire.

Independent bookstores are the rebel bases.

Go out, buy books from your local indie bookseller, and support the rebellion today!

I wish liberals would lose the word “moron.” It’s literally the language of eugenics; it was made an English word as part of a classification system used to justify sterilizing-or worse-hundreds of thousands of intellectually disabled ppl.

Keep criticizing MAGA, RFK Jr, etc. Just use a better word.

For Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir Bibas.

May their memories be a blessing, forever.

Tesla Cybertruck - possibly the ugliest production car ever made - is a commercial disaster. Nobody wants these dumpsters. So Elon foists $400 million of them on the US military. Talk about Government Excess.

Corruption has always existed. But never has it been this obvious.

A terrible beast is on the rampage, wreaking havoc and mindlessly destroying everything in his path.

Also, there’s this cool Godzilla model in Tokyo.

You gotta fight the powers that be.

Yes everything is terrible right now but OTOH I just finished reading @emilymandel.bsky.social’s 2nd novel, THE SINGER’S GUN. A near-pristine 1st edition I found on eBay, no less.

I love going back & reading the earlier works of terrific writers I discovered mid-career. You will too. #booksky

Reports here that Google caved seem to be greatly exaggerated—at least based on my phone. When I just searched for “Gulf of Mexico,” I got, yes, the Gulf of Mexico. When (solely to test the hypothesis) I searched for “Gulf of America,” I got …

the Gulf of Mexico.

Remain calm y’all.

Just a partial (I have books in at least 3 different places), but a pretty good sampling, I think. #booksky

Welcome home Emily, Romi, and Doron.

May all of the hostages be returned, alive and safe, speedily in our time.

And may the impetus toward peace and healing take hold and prevail. For Israelis, for Palestinians, for all of us.

I don’t think Mr. Trump has really thought this weather thing all the way through. If they stayed outside, at least he could blame the small size on shrinkage from the cold.

Notable novels I read in 2024. Of these 18, 11 are by women. That’s no accident. (Way back in 1981 I completed the nascent Women’s Studies program @ @brandeispress.bsky.social.) Someday I’ll full-on rant about how much men lose by not reading women writers. For today, just a few highlights. #booksky

I’m 100% in favor of trashing Elon Musk & others of his ilk. But let’s please avoid the word “moron”—which is literally the language of eugenics, having been brought into English as part of a classification system used to justify sterilization (& worse) of countless ppl w/intellectual disabilities.

At risk of this becoming yet another stan account for my amazing daughter, let me introduce #RachelHandlin. 1st person w/#Downsyndrome to earn a masters degree. CalArts BFA. Pratt Institute MFA. 2X Twitter phenom. Now profiled in @nytimes.com for her solo show @ White Columns gallery NYC til Dec 21.

In almost a month here I haven’t introduced myself. So, here’s a bookshelf pic.

I have books in several different locations bc life is complicated, but these are most current & my fave.

3/4=fiction. Shelving alphabetically/ignoring genre was liberating.

Bottom right=research for a WIP.

A single manuscript page from the first draft of Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged” just sold at Doyle Auctioneers for $25,000 (plus the 25% buyer’s premium, sales tax, etc.)

For one scrap from Ayn frickin’ Rand.

Make it make sense.

Here’s a radical idea: if you can possibly avoid it, DON’T shop Amazon today. Patronize small businesses instead. For example, I just ordered @wdavidmarx’s AMETORA from my local indie bookstore, Greenlight Bookstore in Brooklyn. Your purchases mean much more to small businesses & their communities.
