It's nice seeing these grow despite the heat. This specific one is in a more protected area and has grown a bit larger than others in the yard.

It's nice seeing these grow despite the heat. This specific one is in a more protected area and has grown a bit larger than others in the yard.
Most wildflowers in the desert bloom in spring. However, these come up after monsoon rains and bloom in the heat of summer. It isn't a true poppy and also isn't related to California poppies, Eschscholzi californica, though the flowers look similar (4 petals on the CA poppy, 5 on the AZ poppy).
