“Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet”
By: Jamie Ford
Narrated by: Feodore Chin
Length: 10:52
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Second time reading — first was in middle school, assigned by a teacher. I could not remember the ending, and I’m so happy for that. This book rips your heart apart and then stitches it back up.

Lastly I want to share a piece my stepdad painted to represent his time served. He gifted this to me on my 22nd birthday, when I had spent as many years on earth as he had incarcerated. Nate, like Corby, painted murals in prison — specifically in the visitor rooms for family and friends to see. ❤️

“The River is Waiting”
By: Wally Lamb
Narrated by: Jeremy Sisto
Length: 14:40
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wally Lamb did it again. It was odd ready a modern day based Lamb book (2017-2023).

I’ve read reviews that said the main character, Corby, was hard to have empathy for. Since when is that a requirement for reading?

“We Are Water”

This book took a while to get through because I listened to it while I was getting through 11/22/63. I adore Lamb and this was one I bought years ago but never picked up. Multiple narrators kept it interesting. But I became …

By: Stephen King

Wow. First King book I’ve ever read. I couldn’t stop listening to it! This book scratched an itch — my infatuation with JFK plus a period piece deep dive. The voice actor was incredible. I watched the James Franco show many moons ago…

“The Westing Game”
By: Ellen Raskin
Narrated by: Cassandra Campbell
Length: 6:59
⭐️⭐️⭐️

Followed by one of my fav books from elementary school, which I did not enjoy as much because I was not a fan of the voice over … almost couldn’t finish it. Very difficult to keep track of all the characters.

“The Thief Lord”
By: Cornelia Funke
Narrated by: Simon Jones
Length: 8:30
⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book holds a special place in my heart. I wanted to revisit some fiction from my childhood. It’s about badass orphans/runaways who hide out in a movie theater. The voice over is fantastic (he does funny kids voices).

“Tom Lake”
By: Ann Patchett
Narrated by: Meryl Streep
Length: 11:22
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Followed my last read with another Patchett novel. I liked it less, but it was still a good read. It made me want to see Our Town and eat fruit. I’d like to manifest this gets made into a movie with Jacob Elordi as Duke.

Saw this at a Vancouver bookstore last weekend and loved the cover. The summary also intrigued me. I finished it in two days and I’m nearly speechless. Apparently this book got popular in the last year!

“The Wonder Spot”
By: Melissa Banks
Narrated by: Author

I’m listening to multiple books right now but finished another Banks book first. Loved it. Felt like I got to live in NY for a while. She’s great at word play and humor, and makes you think every love interest is THE one.

“Mufasa” was great. Can’t get the songs out of my head. Favorite was Tell Me It’s You.

Isaiah asked how I am able to “get emotional over Chuck E. Cheese animatronics singing.” I truly have no answer but I love these movies.

Moana 2 was decent. I loved the bat lady. Music was, as expected, not great. I left the theater with the first movie’s songs in my head.

Remembering when we received the newest Economist mag in the mail on Nov. 5 but we didn’t grab the mail until the next day and we were traumatized by its headline, “WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?”

Re-release of the film inspired me to read Paper Moon for the first time. The movie holds a special place in my heart. 🌙
