There is this graph of driving length in Norway (private, but based on two tables from Statistics Norway, seems to check out), where 95% new cars are EVs and about 1/3 of cars on the road are EVs.

As could be expected, EVs start out as city cars, but then cheaper mileage kicks in.

In case of EU, primarily caused by Germany. Austerity and Supreme Court has done the German car industry long-lasting, perhaps permanent, harm.

Also, Europe has a higher share of transitional EV (hybrids) than US, but lower than China. Here too BEVs are taking over.

"Some of the former officials we surveyed, in both parties, are speaking out against the wrongs they see unfolding despite the professional and personal risks.

But many of them — more so than last year — don’t want to speak on the record."

Not what they want. Russia knows that (almost) nobody likes them, so they use wedge issues instead. That way they they can impair any effective anti-Russian policies and governing.

Fidesz has taken over media and most institutions in Hungary, so that is a different case.

Usage is not falling any more, but not rising either.

Fairly stable on 20M likes and 0.7M posts a day. Different stats, but estimated 4M daily users. Better than Mastodon, but way worse than the oligarch-run sites.

While we should recognise dangerous fossil forces trying and partially succeeding, rich countries' energy consumption has been flat/slowly falling.

It is capital costly, but critical that world's #energyPoor get access to RE, and don't go down old fossil path.

In an earlier life I worked as an intern at an Oslo office with a paternoster, using it to shift papers between the floors.

It was first later when I moved to Prague that I realised this was a tourist attraction.

Did you do the full circle?

From @ember-energy.org's Global Electricity Review 2025. Globally we're close to cover all new electricity demand with renewables, but not yet enough to replace existing fossil power generation.

"Who is the bike lane lane for" is particularly interesting when looking to China, or dozens of unusual (as yet) form factors of #HPVs, #EAVs and #EVs. Essentially

Pedestrian-like
Bicycle-like
Motorbike-like
Car-like
Train-like

by speed, volume, weight, power, and manoeuvrability.

EU is roughly on target for 55% reduction in 2030.

90% reduction by 2050 is more ambitious, and the crucially political risk is higher, but it is well feasible without retorting to any magic dust.

Tech goal is not less use of energy per se, but ending most fossil fuels, and *much* more efficient use of energy as a whole.

For Western countries that would lead to falling energy use, but not the rest of the world.

Long term energy will be cheaper, and that will affect consumption. #kaya 💡🔌

While presumably not having long-term effects, very much not what Germany needed.

As I said, I didn't mean "pushed to join". Ukrainian government showed NATO interest in 2008.

US was strongly for Ukraine being considered, Germany strongly against. In hindsight big mistake.

At time interest was lukewarm also among Ukrainians. That changed radically after Russia's 2014 invasion.

What they're doing is certainly illegal, but they expect blanket pardons (or worse).

In a different time that led to president resigning after being threatened with impeachment from representatives of their own party.
