You’ve mentioned three other issues there aside from gender transition. Of the four, some are about ‘rights’ eg voting, whilst others are about child or young person ‘protection’ eg having sex and arguably stopping puberty blockers for U18. Rights and protections are separate matters.

I never broke anything, mainly because I was never allowed to do anything. Certainly my Mum thought she was always right.

But are they not still human beings first and foremost?… Unless they’ve undertaken a whole heap of reflective practice (as social scientists are more likely to have) they’ll not be aware that they have emotional prejudices which undermine their objectivity.
Meanwhile, frustrating isn’t it.

Are you implying that as a science teacher they should think? The problem with that reasoning is that our decisions are emotionally motivated in the first instance. We then employ cognition a split second after the event in order to rationalise our emotional reaction.
