Bitcoin mining is centralised, Bitcoin development is centralised and Bitcoin ownership is increasingly centralised. The network is vulnerable, especially when the industry welcomes the world’s most powerful government administration with open arms.

It’s not an easy question to answer but we should use Bitcoin’s failures to modernise existing financial systems to incorporate blockchain's genuine innovations whilst maintaining necessary protections. Bitcoin has become a cautionary tale, not a template for the future.

I literally spent 10 years of my life in the industry, working for multiple exchanges and championing the Bitcoin to anyone who would listen. Has it changed the world like I expected? Not even close. Pictures of apes and hat-wearing dog-themed coins are not the future of finance. Bitcoin is crypto

Fair enough, there are certainly some who enjoy self-custody, but they’re in a tiny minority. The majority of people who interact with Bitcoin do so via centralised systems and don’t care at all about why Satoshi invented it. For most it is purely a speculative asset. Crypto is one big casino.

It’s necessary, unfortunately. The more popular the platform gets, the greater the need to limit the reach of misinformation. But I agree, I hope that the Bluesky team can tweak the algorithm in such a way so as to allow unverified accounts to compete.

4/4 Finally…. Bots. Where’s there’s social media, there’s bots. Crypto bots, political bots, interaction bots, lots of bots. They’re like digital glitter, annoying and impossible to get rid of entirely. Get ready to hit them with a digital stick before they have a chance to say "AMAZING AIRDROP".

3/4 Advertising. Unless you’re Rory Sutherland then ads can be an annoyance. The question is though, would you rather see the occasional ad or wade through a sea of trolls? Quality moderation needs funding and as the platform grows more moderators are needed. Sometimes we have to pick our battles.

2/4 Verification. The website-based verification system won’t cut it forever. With imposters already causing mischief, Bluesky will need to roll out more robust verification methods before long. This might shakeup how content gets prioritised via the algorithms, but it’s a necessary growing pain.

1/4 Representation. Enjoying the current cosy atmosphere? It’ll evolve. Politicians, celebs, brands - they’ll all pile in eventually. Not because they’re desperate to join the Bluesky party, but because that’s how social media works. Sometimes it’s best to embrace it - diversity brings fresh ideas.

I would say that there are more convenient ways to save money but if you’re putting a little money aside each month to build an investment pot then I can dig that, sure. You would have to acknowledge though that you aren’t using it as Satoshi intended - ‘speculative asset’ isn’t in the whitepaper.

Bitcoin is hardly money for the people. It has become part of the established financial system and its only feasible use case (moving wealth across borders) isn’t useful for the average person. No one wants to be their own bank and altcoins / memecoins is just vapourware designed for gambling.

5/5 Finally, a major key to increasing follower count is to…. not worry too much about follower count. Create value and the followers will come. Be helpful, share insights, and have some fun. Think of it like hosting a party - make it brilliant and people will want to come back for the next one.

4/5 Attention spans are short and so content form matters. Text-only posts typically get less traction so I’m going to try and include: - Images of new things I’m working on / places I’ve been. - Interesting infographics. - Informative charts that highlight statistical insights.

3/5 Engagement isn’t just about replying to comments on your own posts. I’m still not 100% on how the algorithm works here but I’m going to spend 30mins each day engaging with others in my niche areas. Be that person you’d love to see your own comments. Being nice will take you far on Bluesky.

2/5 Niching down. I have a lot of interests but for Bluesky I’m going to start on specific topics and then branch out later. If, like me, you’re interested in starting your own business, maybe focus on that first and just dabble with other topics. Build authority in one area.

1/5 Consistency trumps perfection. I’m going to pick a schedule that I can maintain - whether it’s 3 posts a week or 1 per day. I have other priorities beyond social media (like family, work, gym, etc) and want my followers to get used to when they should expect content.
