Ironically last, safety first!

If the worst should occur, Donatello can hit the big red button which will power an air compressor that will shorten a clamp, depressing the trigger for the fire extinguisher bolted to the table. Foolproof!

Thanks all for reading, I had a blast :)

The central contraption has multiple elements: a laser-pointer taped to a spatula fires a beam into the ooze while a Geiger counter hovers above. a camcorder (my uncle's, again with photoref) with a magnifying glass records the results, tho the tv is mainly showing Donny's dumbstruck reaction

I actually made a screen of a faux-pixel art game I called "Little Turtle in the Big City" that only uses the standard NES colours. Tho it's an 8bit game, a fake 16-bit system is connected, complete with dino stickers on the controller (another hand-me-down from me, as I did this as a kid :) )

Of course he's using a repurposed mouser head as a computer mouse!

And just below that, the classic artist issue: putting your drink and working material in cups that are far too close to one another 😬 pay attention, Donny!

I put a lot of myself in this as well: that's my dad's vice on his old workbench from photoref (putting the "squeeze" on the ol' Shredder-branded stress toy!) and my family's old dinner plate. I like to think Donny was using one of ours we tossed.

The commodore 64 was my first comp, so why not an off-brand c64 as his as well? He's typing away expertly while not looking at it as one of the post-its migrated to his head, without his knowing

From there, the usual: rough, halfway, and tight sketch based on ref, colours underneath, render on top. Done.

NOW I get to talk about the REAL fun stuff: the references! I put in as many as I could... just for fun

First up, his tool belt draped over the table with a familiar confection:

A lot of these sketches were from dead-on or from below, and I tinkered with the idea of another early 20th century artist homage - flat angle from the side, him in profile dwarfed by a huge machine (something like the opening of the tv show, but with ooze and rendered like the sat evening post)

I can't show much for my process for UB art (not even sketches or reference that I made!) but I can talk about it

The brief was along the lines of "Show donny working intently in his sewer lab, examining a tank of the OOZE. his lab equipment is made up of older vintage devices found in the sewer"

But first
I was OBSESSED with the turtles when I was little. Multiple times for Halloween as Leo (my fav), 1st theater experience I can remember was the 1990 movie, and you better believe I drew a ton of em. So it's easy to say that however I feel about UB as a whole, I was stoked to paint my guys

Donatello, The Brain
AD Stephanie Cheung
This was actually the last of the 3 pieces I painted for the TMNT set for which I was VERY happy to contribute to

Donny wasn't one of my favs until now - his single-minded dedication to toiling away in a cluttered space hit pretty close to home
