Done! Easy to make thanks to the excellent directions. Just right as the first freeze of the year sets in.

Nope, nope, I do not like how these two posts appeared in my timeline.

Not a meteorologist, so I know I'm missing some nuance. But still a big nope as a disaster researcher.

Dropped by the local rally. 500+ people with lots of drivers honking in support. Some students (not mine) were also doing observations.

One says to the other: "My hypotheses are wrong, it's bigger than the last one, and most of them aren't college students."

Keep defying expectations everyone.

Beem to a dozen of National Parks. Visiting John Brown and Harpers Ferry was one of the most contemplative I've visited. Stong recommend.

Here's the mean streets near St John's Church on a Sunday morning.

No Kings in Greenville NC. 400ish when counting everyone at all corners of the intersection.

Friendly crowd, several very good dogs, lots of supportive commuters, no police issues.

Two Nazis showed up. Then, they ran away when their car was about to get towed for illegal parking.

Unexpected lobbying...

This magazine has a *four page* spread on everything NOAA does for boaters.

They do a great job showing how all the science by NOAA creates the daily hyperlocal forecast boaters use all the time.

Ends with "we all want to go boating and fish safely...tell your Senators"

Feel good story from field work - a short thread.

So, I'm in the Blue Ridge Mountains checking out disaster recovery after Hurricane Helene (IRB approved and part of project about disaster networks).

Connected with a 100yr old mountain church next to a creek (bunch of those here).

Small wins. Got a library card for the Library of Congress while at APSA 2025. Ready to Nick Cage my next project (or hide as a red-level relic in my pod depending on how things go).

This is Hopper. He is a rescue from Oklahoma and now lives in the Carolinas. Eventhough he has a fun sweater, Hopper does not want to play in the snow. Hopper likes warm weather, not whatever this is.

I really like this graphic the local weather team is using (they aren't on here).

Nice glimpse into storm timing, forecast uncertainty, and what it means for viewers.

(One day out from a snowstorm. Been a busy day preparing for local hazards while watching national risks)

Back to reality after conferencing. SPSA (@spsanews.bsky.social) is one of the best conferences for connecting with other politics and disaster researchers. Here's three of my favorite pictures from #SPSA2025. See you all next time!

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who is coming to save you?

Welp, at least I'll die knowing my saga is the inspiration for a surprisingly successful DLC side quest.

The Carter ornament was front and center on the tree this year. May he rest in peace and reunited with Rosalynn.

Watching results from here. Trying to mitigate the anxiety.

Biked for the postcard dropoff. The war on cars and the fight for democracy are intersecting movements.

It's not the best picture of A3, but the happiest picture I've taken during this week of challenging field work. So excited that weather, schedules, and geography aligned.

Diving into Tornado God: American Religion and Violent Weather by @peterjthuesen.bsky.social. Absolutely wonderful.

Deep history of individual tornado events. An eye towards larger developments in meteorology and public safety. Broad approach to the range of religions in US.

Strong recommend.

Eastern North Carolina. While not a native of the region, this is the change over my lifetime.

It's Super Tuesday. Things feel pretty grim going into election season. Had to remind myself of the Lewis quote before walking out the door and heading off to vote.

"If it didn't matter - they wouldn't try to take it."

Really cool to work with Curtis Ellis and Ernest McGowen to try to add some nuance using the data from CMPS. We also got to make a fun map showing household planning levels by county within the CMPS sample.

See above for a free version of the article. Full version here: doi.org/10.1108/DPM-...
