Oh, I could write you a novel. DS9 sets it up in a way that makes sense. Romulans have the similar Tal Shiar and Cardassians the Obsidian Order. Makes sense to have a covert group to counteract.
Discovery then soured it with nonsense, and now this movie looks to be burying it as a valid concept.

Ezri has grown on me more with each rewatch. I think my initial dislike was more about mourning Jadzia than giving the new Dax a chance…
