You seem to have eliminated "external keyboard and monitor" (which I recommend), but have you considered "external keyboard and a laptop stand"? Anything to get your monitor to eye height is essential.

I like to call this room the "Mail Room" because of the design of these cabinets. My wife likes to call it the "front room" or "former dining room" which just doesn't have a good ring to it IMO.

I made a thing. Modular paint bottle holder so I can expand it width or height. This one is 3 wide and 2 tall. With optional tall stuff holder attached behind.
