I enjoyed the character of Xenk in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. It was a fun take on a Paladin played as an absurd stereotype.

I enjoyed Ann Leckie's The Raven Tower for it's Third person narrator that was omniscient in a different way and eventually becomes part of the story.

Talleyrand is fascinating to me. A cleric and party animal who navigated several regime changes to end up negotiating the balance of powers dynamic in Europe with Metternich which influences the next century of European politics.

Blindsight by Peter Watts is pretty fantastic.
