The neighborhood male Rufous is such a bully to the other hummingbirds and also more skittish around me, so this was a surprise. I'm sure he's furious he has to eat from my hand.

Also, finally figured out the high-speed setting so the wings are less strobey.

New Hummingbird Baby alert! Didn't think it was going to happen this year - didn't actually see any eggs in the nest - but they surprised me.

Mom is hard at work bringing food. Trying to get her to feed from my hand like in years past, but so far, nada.

Sunday Bird Butt.

I am constantly impressed at how sturdy these hummingbird nests are. This one's rock-solid - I think she used bits of a receipt to paper mâché that thing together, and she's stolen every spiderweb in the courtyard to secure it to the tree.

This year's limited-edition Peeps have dropped. Not sweet - very spicy.

The local hummingbirds are good at finding nest sites that are hard to photograph. This is the best I'll get this year.

Late season hummingbird nest! We've got a big magnolia tree that the local Rufous Hummingbirds like to use, but they're usually done by now. I figured it wouldn't happen this year. I'm guessing the SoCal fires and the subsequent heavy rains delayed things.

90% of the time they avoid me. 99% of the time they're at war with each other. But a three-way armistice is called at dusk - they wouldn't even wait for me to hang the feeder after refilling it.

These are from a couple of weeks ago; her throat feathers have come in since then. Not a big gorget like the males, but still a defined patch. I kinda like when they just have the spots, though. You can see the patterns in their feathers more clearly.

Local 892 prepping an absolute massive amount of clothing for the LA Fires relief efforts. I was there for a bit, helping Local 871 bring donations over. Local 80 was also prepping other supplies as well.
